The Shimano 2026 Miravel is the first full redesign of the lightweight spinning-reel series in four years. It retains the CI4+ body and low-inertia MagnumLite Rotor that define the platform, while adding several systems previously associated with higher-tier Shimano reels.
The Japan-market lineup covers eleven models from size 1000 through C5000XG. Most are scheduled for release in September 2026; the 1000, C2000S, and C2000SHG are scheduled for October.

What Changed for the 2026 Miravel
The headline changes are Infinity Drive, Anti-Twist Fin, a One-Piece Bail, and X Protect. Together, these additions address four separate areas: winding efficiency under load, slack-line control, smoother guidance into the line roller, and water resistance around key rotating components.
The reel continues to use Shimano's HAGANE Gear, X-SHIP, Silent Drive, AR-C Spool, G-Free Body, screw-in handle, CI4+ construction, and first-generation MagnumLite Rotor. The result is an update to the drive, line-management, and protection systems rather than a change in the Miravel's lightweight design direction.
Low-Inertia Rotor and CI4+ Construction
The MagnumLite Rotor is made from CI4+, Shimano's carbon-fiber-reinforced resin. Its low rotational inertia reduces the force needed to start and stop the rotor, which is relevant when working lures with repeated handle inputs or short pauses. The same material is used across major body components to keep listed weights between 170 and 270 g (6.0 and 9.5 oz), depending on size.
A lighter rotor does not by itself determine sensitivity or control, but lower inertia can make changes in handle input more immediate. That characteristic suits applications such as light saltwater fishing, area trout, bass fishing, and eging, where repeated lure manipulation is common.

Drive System: Infinity Drive, HAGANE Gear, and X-SHIP
Infinity Drive reduces sliding resistance between the pinion gear and main shaft by revising the support structure and applying a special surface treatment to the shaft. Its purpose is to lower rotational torque and preserve winding efficiency as load rises.
HAGANE Gear provides a cold-forged drive gear, while X-SHIP uses an optimized gear layout and two-point pinion support. Silent Drive addresses small clearances and movement among internal drive components. A screw-in handle completes the connection between handle input and the drivetrain.

Line Management from Bail to Spool
The new Anti-Twist Fin sits close to the line roller and helps control slack as line is retrieved. It is designed to reduce line dropping below the spool and to limit loose or twisted line being wound onto the spool. The seamless One-Piece Bail guides line toward the roller without a joint that could interrupt its path.

The AR-C Spool uses a reverse-taper spool lip to manage the way line leaves the spool. Shimano states that this shape supports smoother line release while reducing line-related casting problems. The design is compatible with nylon, fluorocarbon, and PE line, with capacity varying by model.

Balance, Water Resistance, and Drag Protection
G-Free Body moves the oscillation mechanism upward so the reel's center of gravity sits closer to the rod and the angler's hand. This does not change the reel's measured weight, but it changes how that weight is distributed when the reel is mounted.

X Protect combines water-repellent treatment with a labyrinth-style structure intended to limit water entry without adding a contact seal that would increase rotational resistance. On the Miravel, protection is applied around areas including the stopper bearing and line roller.
The felt drag is protected by a seal beneath the drag knob. Keeping water away from the drag stack helps preserve consistent line tension after exposure to spray or rain. Published practical drag is 2 kg (4.4 lb) on the 1000 and C2000 models, 2.5–3.5 kg (5.5–7.7 lb) on the 2500 and C3000 group, and 6 kg (13.2 lb) on the 4000 and C5000 models.

Choosing a 2026 Miravel Model
1000 and C2000: Light-Line Applications
The 1000 is the smallest standard model and uses a 42 mm (1.65 in) spool. The C2000S combines the 1000-size body and rotor with a shallow 2000-size spool, while the C2000SHG raises the gear ratio from 5.0 to 6.0 and increases line recovery from 66 to 79 cm (26.0 to 31.1 in) per handle turn. These models cover area trout and light saltwater applications where compact size and light-line capacity are priorities.
2500 Family: General Purpose, Bass, and Eging
The 2500 is the deep-spool all-rounder, with broader nylon and braid capacity. The shallow-spool 2500S is configured around lighter line and a 5.0 gear ratio, while the 2500SHG provides a 6.2 ratio and 91 cm (35.8 in) of recovery for faster line pickup. The 2500-size group is the central choice for bass, trout, eging, and general inshore use.
C3000: More Capacity in a Compact Body
The C3000 and C3000HG share a 200 g (7.1 oz) weight, 9 kg (19.8 lb) maximum drag, and the same line capacities. The difference is retrieve speed: 73 cm (28.7 in) per turn for the 5.0 model and 91 cm (35.8 in) for the 6.2 high-gear version. The standard model favors measured retrieves and winding torque; the HG version retrieves slack more quickly.
4000 and C5000: Shore and Heavier-Line Roles
The 4000 uses a 4.7 gear ratio and 75 cm (29.5 in) recovery for applications that prioritize winding force. The 4000XG keeps the same 245 g (8.6 oz) weight and line capacity but reaches 99 cm (39.0 in) per turn. The C5000XG adds a 57 mm (2.24 in) handle, round knob, 105 cm (41.3 in) recovery, and the largest capacity in the lineup for light shore jigging and shore-casting applications.
