Daiwa 26 Seaborg 500J vs Shimano 26 BeastMaster 3000II is a choice between mobility and maximum controlled load in current 2026 electric reels. Seaborg is the lighter platform, built around one-hand JOG Power Lever control, a compact 500-size frame, connected settings, and both handheld and rod-holder use. BeastMaster is the heavier 3000-size platform, built around a mechanical two-speed drivetrain, higher sustained winding capability, and onboard "Tankenmaru"(fish finder) information.

The short answer: choose Seaborg 500J when low reel mass, direct thumb control, electric jigging, and moving between handheld and holder-mounted fishing matter most. Choose BeastMaster 3000II when heavy multi-hook rigs, high sustained load, and shifting from rapid recovery to a dedicated power range are central to the trip.

The Core Difference: Mobility vs Load Management

Seaborg weighs 750 g (26.5 oz). Daiwa positions it for anglers who still want to hold the rod, feel a bite, set the hook, and fight a fish while retaining electric assistance. Its central JOG Power Lever lets the rod hand control retrieval speed and clutch operation with the thumb. A 75–85 mm (2.95–3.35 in) adjustable handle also lets the user favor faster manual pickup or more leverage.

BeastMaster weighs 1,100 g (38.8 oz), 350 g (12.3 oz) more. The extra mass accompanies a reinforced drive system, 25 kg (55.1 lb) maximum drag, a large line-capacity platform, and Shimano’s first mechanical two-speed electric drivetrain. It is the more specialized answer when holding heavy tension is more important than minimizing reel mass.

Motor and Gear Strategy

Seaborg uses Daiwa’s MAGMAX-G brushed motor. Daiwa describes the design as responsive at both high and low speed and gives the motor a three-year or 300 km (186 mi) limited guarantee condition. The reel’s published JAFS-standard figures are 20 kg (44.1 lb) of winding force and 215 m/min (235 yd/min) of winding speed. Its controls manage the motor electronically without a separate mechanical power gear.

BeastMaster uses a GigaMax brushless motor with two physical drive ranges. Speed range reaches a listed 215 m/min (235 yd/min), while power range is rated for 25 kg (55.1 lb) of practical sustained winding. A mechanical shift changes the ratio without stopping the motor. That matters when a fast empty-rig recovery turns into a high-load fight or a heavy multi-hook lift.

The two manufacturers do not define every winding measurement in exactly the same way. Daiwa’s JAFS-standard force and speed figures should not be treated as laboratory-identical to Shimano’s practical endurance and range-specific speed figures. They establish the intended performance class, not a universal head-to-head motor test.

Drag and Line Capacity

Seaborg lists 23 kg (50.7 lb) of maximum drag. BeastMaster lists 25 kg (55.1 lb). Both figures are far above the working drag used with many offshore line systems, and neither number describes startup smoothness, heat behavior, rod limits, knots, or terminal tackle. BeastMaster adds Thermo Adjust Drag control, which reduces motor speed when the system detects drag slip that could create excessive heat.

Seaborg carries 60 lb braid for 500 m (547 yd), 80 lb for 400 m (437 yd), or 90 lb for 300 m (328 yd). BeastMaster carries 60 lb for 470 m (514 yd), 80 lb for 350 m (383 yd), 90 lb for 300 m (328 yd), or 100 lb for 200 m (219 yd). Seaborg has more listed capacity at the first two shared line classes; both list the same 90 lb distance.

Boat-Side Controls and Electronics

Seaborg’s JOG layout is centered on immediate control from the rod hand. Its fall-brake dial adjusts drop resistance through a 180-degree range, and its motor-linked clutch can stop the motor when the clutch is released and resume winding when re-engaged. A dot-matrix display, depth alarms, three basic auto-jig patterns, and selectable drag sounds support everyday boat operation.

Seaborg also supports Daiwa Connected mobile settings and the separately available Remote JOG controller. Mobile settings can handle line input, maintenance information, functional settings, and reel naming. Remote JOG can start, stop, and vary powered retrieve while displaying depth away from the reel, which is useful when a rod spends time in a holder.

BeastMaster focuses its electronics on heavy-load control and live boat information. "Tankenmaru" (fish finder) Screen can show depth, rig position, bottom changes, and compatible fish-location data when used with an appropriate host system. Its EJ advanced mode provides three jerk-strength patterns, along with manual and automatic jerk settings and one-pitch distance display.

Drop Control and Retrieve Feel

Seaborg combines a fall-brake dial with a Magsealed ball bearing on the side-plate spool shaft. The brake can manage sink speed without continuous thumb pressure, while the protected bearing supports consistent spool rotation in saltwater service. Its manual retrieve is 58 cm (22.8 in) per handle turn.

BeastMaster uses a high-capacity mechanical brake and Fire Mach System bearing layout for rapid controlled descent. Manual retrieve is 66 cm (26.0 in) per turn. Shimano also provides load-responsive and constant-speed powered modes, plus fine low-speed control across a 31-step range for deliberate presentations.

Which Electric Reel Fits Your Fishing?

  • Frequent handheld fishing: Seaborg’s 750 g (26.5 oz) body and thumb-operated JOG system reduce the burden of working the rod.
  • Heavy multi-hook rigs or high sustained load: BeastMaster’s power range and 25 kg (55.1 lb) practical endurance rating are the stronger match.
  • Electric jigging with connected setup tools: Seaborg combines three auto-jig patterns with app-based configuration.
  • Switching between rapid recovery and a powerful lift: BeastMaster’s mechanical two-speed shift is the defining feature.
  • Remote holder operation: Seaborg supports Remote JOG as an additional controller.
  • Integrated compatible sonar information: BeastMaster’s Tankenmaru Screen is the relevant advantage.
  • Maximum line reserve at 60 or 80 lb: Seaborg has the greater published capacity at those shared line classes.

Power and Compatibility Checks Before Choosing

Neither reel contains the boat’s power source. Verify the battery voltage, capacity, cable connection, circuit protection, and charter rules before use. Shimano recommends a high-capacity battery for full BeastMaster performance. Seaborg specifies a 12–16.8 V operating range.

Rod rating, line diameter, terminal knots, drag setting, mounting hardware, and the boat’s electrical system must match the intended load. Published maximum figures are not a recommendation to fish continuously at those limits.

Bottom Line

Seaborg 500J is the more mobile and versatile handheld electric platform. It is substantially lighter, offers direct JOG control, supports connected settings and remote operation, and carries more line at two common shared classes. BeastMaster 3000II is the stronger dedicated load-management platform. Its two-speed drivetrain, higher sustained winding rating, reinforced structure, and "Tankenmaru" integration suit anglers who prioritize heavy rigs and controlled power over minimum mass.
