“HAGANE”
“HAGANE” is more than just a material name; it’s a design philosophy centered around creating reels that offer unmatched longevity and smoothness. The term "HAGANE" itself, which means "steel" in Japanese, symbolizes strength and resilience. However, in Shimano's context, it transcends traditional interpretations, representing a suite of advanced technologies aimed at enhancing performance and durability. In other words, when they say "HAGANE", they do not actually mean that HAGANE(= steel) is used. “HAGANE” promises robustness that can be used with peace of mind even in the harshest of conditions, an unchanging, exquisite winding feel, and winding power that exceeds the imagination."HAGANE Gear" or "HAGANE Body" is Shimano's engineering concept and philosophy.
MICROMODULE GEAR
The MICROMODULE GEAR system features finer gear teeth that mesh more closely than traditional gears, reducing power loss and creating a smooth, powerful retrieve, complemented by a precisely engineered body housing. Compared to previous Shimano gears, vibration levels are reduced to less than half. The increased number of meshing teeth also ensures greater strength, making this a unique Shimano gear system that balances smoothness with durability.
X-SHIP
X-SHIP features an enlarged drive gear, optimal positioning of the pinion and drive gears, and two-point support for the pinion gear with bearings. This robust gear engagement maintains smooth and efficient reeling even under heavy loads.
MGL SPOOL II
The casting performance of a baitcasting reel is greatly influenced by the spool's moment of inertia. To reduce this inertia, development efforts have focused on techniques like thinning and blanking the spool's barrel. The Magnumlite Spool II takes this further by successfully incorporating side perforations—a technological feat previously deemed impossible. As a result, the moment of inertia has been reduced by 10% compared to the first-generation Magnumlite Spool, significantly enhancing casting distance.
I-DC5
The I-DC5 is a DC braking system that balances long casting performance with backlash prevention. It allows for precise brake adjustments using a three-stage internal dial, tailored to the type of line used (nylon, fluorocarbon, or PE), and a five-stage external brake dial to fine-tune the braking force. This system enables brake settings that maximize the characteristics of each line type. By replacing the previously assembled magnets with a one-piece four-pole magnetized ring, the effective magnetic force area is increased, resulting in a 30% boost in braking power. Additionally, by introducing a momentary no-brake zone immediately after release of casting, the maximum rotational speed is improved by approximately 12%, enabling longer, more stable casts.
S3D SPOOL
The S3D SPOOL features an entirely redesigned cutting method, significantly enhancing the spool's precision. As a result, this design improves the smoothness and reduces vibrations during casting, leading to a quieter and more stable performance.
SA-RB
A-RB bearings feature a special anti-corrosion treatment that significantly improves their rust resistance. The SA-RB takes this further by sealing the sides with anti-corrosion materials, greatly reducing salt crystallization and salt damage inside the bearing.
SUPER FREE SPOOL
SUPER FREE SPOOL is a system where the spool shaft is supported by only two bearings when the reel's clutch is disengaged. This design minimizes spool wobble and eliminates rotational resistance, allowing for exceptionally smooth and light spool free performance.
