The 2025 Shimano Ultegra and 2026 Miravel now share several important systems, including a CI4+ body, Infinity Drive, X Protect, Anti-Twist Fin, a One-Piece Bail, and a forged HAGANE Gear. The decision is therefore less about a simple feature count and more about rotor behavior, drivetrain refinement, spool design, and total weight.

The Main Split: CoreSolid or MagnumLite
Ultegra belongs to Shimano's CoreSolid family. Its rotor is designed with enough inertia to maintain a steady cadence once moving, which suits continuous retrieves and lures that create consistent resistance. Miravel belongs to the MagnumLite family and uses a low-inertia CI4+ rotor. It is designed to start and stop with less input, favoring techniques built around frequent changes in retrieve speed or deliberate lure movement.
What Ultegra Adds
Ultegra adds MicroModule Gear II, Infinity Cross, and a Long Stroke Spool. MicroModule Gear II refines gear-tooth engagement, while Infinity Cross increases the contact area between the drive and pinion gears to distribute load. The Long Stroke Spool extends the line-lay area and is intended to reduce the rate at which the effective spool diameter falls during a cast.
These systems make Ultegra the more drivetrain-focused platform. Its design direction favors smooth, stable rotation and durability under repeated use rather than the lowest possible startup inertia.
What Miravel Prioritizes
Miravel is 5 g (0.2 oz) lighter in the matched C2000SHG comparison. More important than that small total-weight difference is where the mass is reduced: the MagnumLite rotor is intended to react quickly to changes at the handle. This can matter when working small plugs, jigs, or soft plastics with repeated pauses and accelerations.
The 2026 generation narrows the functional gap by adding Infinity Drive, X Protect, Anti-Twist Fin, and a One-Piece Bail. It does not add Ultegra's MicroModule Gear II, Infinity Cross, or Long Stroke Spool, so its advantage remains a lighter, more responsive rotor concept rather than the same internal package at a lower weight.
